Tuesdays With Lazerbeak

LazerbeakLazerbeak, News

It brings me great pride and joy to announce to you today that Bad Time Zoo, the new full length front to back insane heater from Sims and myself, is officially being launched out into the world for all to hear.  I am so pumped!  So without further ado, I’d like to welcome you to this week’s all Bad Time Zoo everything post.

An earth shattering and enormous thank you is in order to all of the hundreds and hundreds of people that already pre-ordered the album in advance.  Your support has been truly overwhelming and we can’t thank you enough for riding so hard for Doomtree.  All the pre-ordered copies shipped out on Friday via USPS first class mail, so you should be receiving them shortly if you haven’t already.  We picked three names to receive the “Burn It Down” masks during the webcast last week and will pick a few more random names out of the pre-orders in the next couple days.  We’ll post all the winners up later this week.  Here are a couple pictures of the webstore before we took everything to the post office.  It took three full car loads to get everything there! As always, thank you so much to Grace and Doug for their continued amazing hard work at the webstore.  Killing it.

If you’re more into the digital age and have been waiting to purchase the album in MP3 format, your prayers have been answered.  The album is now available digitally at iTunes HERE,  directly from us via Bandcamp HERE, and at Amazon.com HERE.  Several record stores across the country will also be carrying it.  We’re working on putting together a more comprehensive list of all those stores, but in the meantime, if your local store doesn’t have BTZ available feel free to request it.  They should be able to order it for you quite easily.  Speaking of record stores, this afternoon (2/15) Sims and I will be heading down to the Fifth Element in Minneapolis to celebrate the release of the album by doing a free in-store performance.  At 6:00pm we’ll be playing a few songs live, answering questions, and signing CDs and posters.  2411 Hennepin Ave S.  Be there.

That in-store will just be a brief warmup though for the big glorious album release party that’s going down this Saturday night at the Fine Line.  One for the ages!  Solo performances from all of the Doomtree rappers, plus a super special Sims set that will include Paper Tiger, Plain Ole Bill, and myself creating the beats live with a four piece backing choir composed of Dessa, Aby Wolf, Chris Koza, and Khalil Queen.  Incredible.  This night is gonna be completely off the chains (people still say that right?).  You can pick up tickets at Fifth Element, Electric Fetus, and the Fine Line box office.  They’re also available online right HERE.  More details below.

We recently filmed a new music video with our friends at MPLS.TV for their bi-monthly local music series City Of Music.  We recorded a live version of the title track and I still can’t believe we filmed the whole thing outside of Muddy Waters in single digit weather, or that the MPC actually functioned for the entire shoot.  You can check out the video below.  Thanks to Dan Huiting and his whole crew for braving the elements with us.  Oh and huge shouts to the inside of my ’99 Toyota Camry which makes an appearance in the first half of the clip.  Love that car.  You can go to the Gimme Noise blog on the City Pages website for more info and pictures from the shoot.

There have also been some pretty cool press stuff and interviews coming out in the past couple weeks leading up to the release that I haven’t had time to mention.  Below are a couple links to a few of my favorites.

Hip Hop Fiend interview with Sims and myself.  A very in depth and extensive conversation on the making of BTZ.

Alternative Press review

In-studio performance at Radio K (audio and video)

And let’s not forget the incredibly dope “Burn It Down” video.  We’re at 25,000 views and climbing!

OK, so I know I said this was the all Bad Time Zoo everything post, but before I wrap this thing up I’d like to sneak in a quick shout out to my beautiful wifepiece Brittany, who’s birthday we celebrated in style over the weekend.  I was able to commission our good friend Matt Scharenbroich, who did all the artwork and a lot of the videos for Legend Recognize Legend, to paint a portrait of our dog Della, the crazy animal that has brought so much joy into our home over the last few years.  Here are Brittany and Della checking out the unveiling.  Awesome.

Absolutely adorable.  Ok, I’ll leave you with one Bonus Video Jam and a ton of cheesy R&B Bonus Jams.  The video is from the homies in Marijuana Deathsquads.  This is actually another one of those City Of Music videos, one of the best I’ve seen by far.  For this one they were able to get some Matrix style cameras set up to document the brutal dueling drum work of Ben and Freddy.  So nutz.  After that I’ve just decided to post a handful of  jams I’ve been feeling as of late.  Fitting for a little belated Valentine’s Day spirit as well.  These songs are for all you lovers out there: Mint Condition, Babyface, El DeBarge, and K’Jon.  Enjoy.  And again, thank you so much for all of the incredible support with Bad Time Zoo.  It really does mean the world to us.  Can’t wait to see a lot of you out this Saturday at the release show.  It is finally time to celebrate!  Have a great week and I’ll see you next Tuesday.
