Hey! Welcome back to Tuesdays With Lazerbeak. Breaking news just coming in: Dessa is gonna be hitting the road again with her full band for some shows on the way to and from SXSW this year. They’ll be playing the classic hitz and tour testing some new material that will land on her upcoming full length (we finish mixing next week!). Tickets will be on sale later this week, but for now check out all the dates and cities below.
No shows announced at the moment.
Last week marked the release of the Mixed Blood Majority record and subsequent album release show at the Triple Rock. Just want to say an enormous thank you to everybody for all of the support surrounding this project. It felt so awesome to be able to celebrate the fact that it had finally all come together. Our good friend Jonny Hoffner (aka Paper Antler) came down to the show and took a bunch of pictures. Here’s a little photo recap from the night. You can also check out City Pages for a super thorough show review from Gimme Noise if you missed it (right HERE).
Jonny also kicked it backstage for awhile before the show and put us all up on this new app called Mix Booth. It is truly insane. Basically you take a picture of two people’s heads and it combines the features in a way that creates a seriously nutz hybrid of the two. Ladies and gentlemen, prepare yourselves. This is not pretty. Here’s Cres and Joe, or what we’re officially calling the fourth member of Mixed Blood Majority.
And here’s what happens when you take those pics and add in me. For real, this is unforgivable.
Ha! Unreal. Mix Booth: the best 99 cents you may ever spend. Ginormous shouts to Jonny for breaking it out. Haven’t laughed that hard in awhile.
And now to continue what appears to be turning into another Epic Random Photo Recap. Last week I finally went to the doctor to get my eye checked out from the legendary 2010 Avatar 3D Glasses Incident. If you’re unfamiliar with said incident click HERE for the whole rundown of how I accidentally stabbed myself in the eye trying to get my 3D glasses on at Avatar three years ago. You may recall this homemade eye patch that Scoops made me to get me through the next couple weeks.
Anyways, since that time my eye has felt better, but whenever I wake up in the morning I have to be super careful opening it. If I open my eye too fast it feels just like it did when I popped those glasses in there. Not TYTE. So after three years the wifepiece finally took matters into her own hands and made me an appointment. I hate going to the doctor just like everybody else, and had gotten it into my head that they were gonna have to perform some kind of intensive and terrifying surgery in order to fix this thing.
I went through a bunch of tests, got suuuuuper dilated out, and was given the excellent news that I just have something common called “recurrent cornea erosion.” No intensive/terrifying surgery necessary, I just have to put this ointment in my eye every night for three months and I should be healed. Victory!!! Plus I got to walk out of the office with these complimentary Brett “The Hitman Hart” roll up shades!
Seriously you just roll them out of this tube and they cling to your temples. I think I finally found a pair of sunglasses that I love, and there is absolutely no possible way for me to injure myself with them (I don’t think at least). Win Win!
I’ll leave you with some Bonus Penny Pics and a quick recap of our trip down to Titusville, Florida a few weeks back to visit her Great Grandma Dot. There she is on her very first plane ride. This was taken right before take off when I had a sliver of hope that she might make it to Florida with no problems. She proceeded to cry nonstop for the next three hours. Worst nightmare confirmed. Huge apologies to every passenger on that Southwest flight to Orlando. “Yikes” doesn’t even begin to sum it up.
We did eventually make it down there in one piece though, and had an absolutely wonderful time once we got back on the good old land. Here’s Penny celebrating the simple joys of being on the ground with her 91 year old GG.
And here she is looking fairly unimpressed by her first glimpse at the ocean.
Oh yeah, we totally drove by a humongous gator too. So that’s her first ocean, gator, plane, and GG all in one epic weekend. Doing it real big these days
By the time it came to fly back we were prepared and determined to make it through that flight with minimal cries. I got a lot of tips on how to make this process easier, and you better believe it’ll all turn into a big chapter in this Dad Lyfe book I’m working on. More on that much later though, for now here’s the evidence of a happy flying baby. Three words I was pretty convinced I’d never be able to type next to each other.
Huge shouts to Dot for taking such good care of us. We had the best time ever. That rum cake is a problem though.
OK, I hope you all have a wonderful week. Thanks for enduring another Epic Random Photo Recap. See you next Tuesday!
