Welcome back to another Tuesdays With Lazerbeak. The Parts of Speech Tour continues to barrel forward on its ever steady course up the West Coast. Just two more California dates left before Sims joins up with the gang in Washington on Friday. You do not want to miss these shows. Check out the dates below and click HERE for tickets.
For further proof that Dessa and the band are alive and well on their journey, here are a couple of pictures that I stole off of Instagram. Below we have Dessa taking a picture of Aby and trying out for the role of Michael Keaton in the upcoming sequel to the oft-forgotten 1996 comedy Multiplicity AT THE SAME DAMN TIME. Bonus points for what appear to be matching tank tops. Highly coordinated.
And here’s Dessa embracing the state of California and all things Raider Nation. This is a prime example of something I like to call Right Idea/Wrong Team, but if it means Dessa’s signing on for the 2013 Fantasy Football Draft, I’m totally OK with it.
Lastly we have Dustin, Aby, and Dessa doing “Lord Knows” what (shouts to Drake, Rawse, and Just Blaze). Can’t come even come up with a caption for this one, but I’m going to do everything in my power to ensure that it becomes the press photo for the next tour.
I gotta be honest with you, it’s kind of a light week over here, which means it’s a perfect time to get into about one miiiiiiiiiillion Bonus Jams!!! There’s been a ton of great local music coming out of this city as of late, so let’s dive right in. First up is a brand new video from the long time homies Big Quarters. It’s got guest verses from I.B.E. and takes place on a basketball court, two things that I am a fan of. Check out “Urgent Care” off of Somos No Joke below.
Speaking of I.B.E., him and Benzilla just dropped an excellent new full length a few weeks back that is easily one of my favorite albums of the year. Check out the This, That, and the Third album sampler below, and then make sure to buy that thing right HERE. Highly recommended.

Speaking of great albums (flawless segue streak remains intact), Pony Bwoy just released their first full length TODAY, and it is extremely awesome. Check out the ultimate jam “Hallowed Ground” below and grab the self-titled album right HERE.

Up next is a newish group out of Minneapolis called VANDAAM. I just picked up their new album last week and I’m super into it. Cool washed out R&B beats and an excellent lead vocalist, plus it sounds great in the Camry (for those times when I’ve burnt out on too much Luther). Check out the video for “Loop2” below and grab the record HERE.
Now for “21 Grams,” the new single from Rapper Hooks, featuring Big Cats! on the beat and our very own P.O.S on the hook. All Black Jesus drops next week!

Speaking of our very own, here’s the new video from International Touring DJ/Sick Trim affiliate Paper Tiger and the ultimate homie F. Stokes. I love this song. Fearless Beauty is out now. Shaka Zulu!
Next up is a brand new group that just announced its presence last week: GRRRL PRTY. Lizzo, Sophia Eris, and Manchita all rapping their asses off. Check out the video for “Wegula” below, my favorite from Adam Dunn’s Lights and a Backdrop series.
And don’t forget about the Mixed Blood Majority video from that series either. My second favorite if I can be so biased.
Here’s a new video from MaLLy & The Sundance Kid, directed by Isaac Gale and David Jensen and featuring Rapper Hooks. Check out “Bounce” below, and grab The Last Great… right HERE.
And now to wind things down with a couple albums that just came out last week. First up is Botzy with “Thrill Is Gone.” Buck Fotzy dropped via Fake Four Distro, and you can grab it right HERE.
And here’s a track from the young gunners Killstreak. I really like this “Tyson” song. Janus is out now, get it HERE.

OK, that about does it for another epic edition of Local Bonus Jams. This city rules. I’ll leave you with a couple Bonus Penny Pics. Here’s a shot my my mom took which documents one of this child’s more insane faces to date. Totally nutz and possibly possessed.
And here’s Penny trying to play it cool like she didn’t just play with that cardboard box on the ground for an entire hour. Busted.
Now for the best one. This is a picture of Penny hanging out while I obsessively watch the Luther Vandross Live At Wembley concert (Netflix that). She was almost into it as much as her dad. Note the cardboard box nonchalantly hanging out in the corner. It’s her best friend.
In the name of flawless segues, I kind of feel like I need to close this post out with a couple Luther Bonus Jams. I’ve been slowly making the move from the Definitive Best Of Collection into deep cut solo album territory, and at this point I can safely say that 1986’s Give Me The Reason is my favorite. As far as classic hits it’s got “Stop To Love” and “So Amazing,” but the deep cuts are seriously unrelenting on this one. I’ll leave you with a couple of my favorites. CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM ENOUGH.
“I Didn’t Really Mean It”
“See Me”
“Give Me The Reason”
“So Amazing”
THEEEEEE BEST. OK, that for real does it for this edition of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak. I hope you all have a wonderful week. I’m off to the annual TPC! Cabin Retreat this weekend, but I’ll see you next Tuesday for sure.
