HOLY MOLY, it’s time for one of the most action-packed Tuesdays With Lazerbeak of ALL TIME. Here’s hoping we can all make it through this onslaught of big time news announcements in one piece. OK, jumping right into it. We’ve spent the last week at home catching our collective breath between legs of the All Hands Tour. This tiny break gave us just enough time to celebrate the one-month birthday of All Hands by playing a big ol’ sold-out hometown release show. Huge shouts to First Avenue, Meta, Taggart & Rosewood, and everyone in that room for making it such a memorable evening. We decided to bring back Team The Best Team-director Chris Hadland to film some of the mayhem, and got TTBT-editor Jay Anker to chop it all up and make it look real pretty. Check out the official All Hands Release Show Video Recap below, and gain a little more insight into our new (and completely amazing) tradition of slamming deli meat on the ground in exultation post-encore.
Our phenomenal FRIENDTOGRAPHER Zoe Prinds-Flash was also in attendance to document the night. She showed up early and grabbed a bunch of behind-the-scene shots before heading out to the floor and shooting the performance. Check out the entire All Hands Release Show Photo Recap below and make sure to check out Zoe’s site right HERE for tons more great photos. Also, shouts to Trampled By Turtles’ Dave Simonett for coming through and blessing us with the Dom P like a true G.
The All Hands Release Show also doubled as a Surly Doomtree release show of sorts, as this was the first time cans of our collaborative beer were made available in the home state. I know I’ve said it a million times, but I really can’t believe there is a beer in a can called DOOMTREE!!! Continues to blow my mind. These bad boys should be hitting select liquor stores throughout the week.
In celebration of the cans being released, it is my great honor to premiere this brand new Surly Doomtree mini documentary showcasing the collaborative process of how this whole thing came together. Tons of cool interviews and behind-the-scenes insight into how every aspect of the collaboration began. Such a great trip down memory lane re-watching how this all unfolded over the last year. I gotta admit though, my favorite part is still Dessa spilling an entire bag of malt all over the brewery floor. CHECK IT.
So to tie-in this sweet beer and all these upcoming shows, Doomtree is headed down to Des Moines today to kick-off Surly’s big official Iowa Invasion. We’re hopping on some buses in a little while here, and will be down at Wooly’s tonight for an awesome show. Check out this interview we did with the Des Moines Register HERE to learn even more about the collabo, and grab your tickets right HERE. See you tonight!
Speaking of shows and tours (SEGUE STREAK 4 EVA), Des Moines is just the beginning of the ongoing All Hands Tour. Cecil, Dessa, Mike, Paper, Sims, and Stef will be heading out to Omaha on Wednesday (tix HERE), Fort Collins on Thursday (tix HERE), Denver on Friday (tix HERE), and Salt Lake City on Saturday (tix HERE), before hitting the West Coast next week. In a bit of unfortunate news, Hellfyre Club will no longer be able to join us due to some unexpected emergencies that have made it impossible for the members to make the run. To fill in the slot, HFC vet Busdriver will be taking their place as main support on the tour, and Open Mike Eagle will be joining him in San Francisco, LA, Pomona, and Mesa. It’s possible that the world just might not have been ready for the insanity of both these crews joining forces quite yet. We wish all the best to our HFC friends and look forward to rocking with them in the near future. Check out all the dates below, and grab more tour details and ticket info right HERE.
After making its way through the Southwest, the All Hands Tour will come to a triumphant finish in Austin, TX for SXSW 2015! We’ve just announced the details of our official Doomtree Records label showcase, and I’m super pumped about the whole thing. On Thursday, March 19th we’ll be taking over Karma Lounge for SIX HOURS OF MUSIC. There will be solo performances by every member of the collective, plus two separate full-crew Doomtree sets. This one is gonna be NUTZ. We’ll be announcing our official full itinerary next week with about one millllllllion day parties, interviews, and in-studio performances, but just couldn’t wait to let you know about this epic first event. Stay tuned for tons more details coming real soon.
There’s already been a couple of cool Doomtree SXSW nods since we announced the showcase. The Current put together a nice write-up and interview on what SXSW has been like for us and what we’re looking forward to this time around. You can check that out right HERE. And this morning NPR released their list of the 100 artists to check out at SXSW. Doomtree made the cut! Check out the feature and the 100 song playlist right HERE. Shouts to Stephen Thompson and NPR for the continued support.
OK, are you still with me??? I know this post is a true marathon, but we’re just getting to the really good stuff. More details are emerging about the upcoming All Hands European Tour. Super pumped to announce that Doomtree will be headlining a show at Barflys in London on June 27th! Tickets go on sale this Thursday and you can grab them right HERE.
Other dates are still filling in along the way, but here’s what else has been announced. We’ll be playing the enormous Roskilde Festival in Denmark, alongside some pretty serious heavy hitters (tix HERE).
Then heading over to the Netherlands for the super rap heavy Woo Hah! Festival, alongside Cypress Hill and Run The Jewels (tix HERE).
And we’ll be making a min-trek through Germany in early July, playing headlining shows in Hamburg (tix HERE), Berlin (tix HERE), Munich (tix HERE), and Cologne (tix HERE). Again, stay tuned for more European dates coming soon!
We’ll head back to the states in mid-July to play the first annual Eaux Claires Festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin (see what they did there?), sharing the stage with the likes of Bon Iver, Spoon, The National, and THE INDIGO GIRLS. So crazy. You can grab your tickets right HERE.
And now for one last big show announcement: Dessa has been confirmed to play at Soundset this year! Check out the flyer below for the just-announced lineup and grab all the festival details right HERE. Tickets go on sale this Saturday.
Alright, I think that’s more than enough show announcements for one week. I’ll leave you with a couple of Bonus Jam albums that I’ve been bumping a lot as of late. First up is (you guessed it) DRAKE. I’ve tried to just casually listen to his latest tape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late without freaking out on everybody about how Drake is slaughtering every other singer and rapper in the game right now, hands down, no question, not even close….but I just can’t hold back any longer. This dude is too good. And only getting better. Check out the Spotify stream below and watch the truly bizarre and ridiculous Jungle mini-movie underneath it. I’m not ashamed to admit that I spent about an hour Googling Toronto slang after watching it.

Up next is the debut full-length album from our friend and fellow Drake-enthusiast CRASHprez. It’s called more perfect. and the good folks at Mishka just released it online late last week. I’ve been listening to it a bunch the last couple of days and highly recommend you check it out as well. You can stream the entire 14-song project on the Soundcloud player below.

OK! That for real does it for this week. Yikes, that was a long post. Thanks for sticking with me. This past week got a little too hectic to take any Bonus Baby Pics, but I assure you there will be more next post. I hope you all have a truly great week, and I’ll see you next Tuesday for even more big time announcements!
