Welcome back to another round of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak! It appears that Spring has officially sprung, and we’re slowly starting to roll out a few new merch items on our Webstore, along with re-ups on the tried and true seasonal essentials. We’ve got some sweet newly added No Kings flags and turntable slipmats, as well as tons of sunglasses, coozies, snapbacks, and tote bags for all your Spring nice weather needs. Click on each item below for more individual details or go right HERE to view the entire store. And stay tuned for some new soft goods coming sooner than later!
Speaking of Spring, here in the Twin Cities a tell-tale sign of the times is the annual Art-A-Whirl festival in Nordeast Minneapolis. It’s a weekend celebration of all the artists and businesses in the neighborhood, and is always accompanied by a ton of parking lot shows. This Saturday, May 16th I’ll be making a rare appearance with Mixed Blood Majority, headlining the 331 Club’s Art-A-Whirl party. We hit stage just before 9:00. Excited to get out of the house and run into a bunch of you hopefully. Click the image below for their entire weekend lineup. Should be a total blast.
That very same night, Sims will be headlining Grumpy NE’s Art-A-Whirl party, just a few blocks down the road. He’s scheduled to perform at 9:15, so if you play your cards right you just might be able to catch half sets from each of us. Click the image below for the full Grumpy’s NE schedule.
And speaking of Sims (segue mania), he’ll be kicking off the crazy Doomtree June Show Takeover with a super rare headlining performance at Icehouse on June 5th with Milo (Hellfyre Club) and DJ Fundo. Tickets are going fast, so if you want to go to this you’re probably gonna want to grab them in advance. Check out all the sweet deetz and ticket info right HERE.
The following weekend, Stef will be headlining the second-annual F*cking Best Show Ever with Big Freedia, Ho99o9, and a ton of other awesome groups. It all goes down on Saturday, June 13th at 835 E. Hennepin. Should be absolutely ridiculous. Grab your tix right HERE.
Then one week after that, our very own Mike Mictlan will be performing two sets at the sixth-annual Wrestlepalooza on Saturday, June 20th. Pro wrestling, burlesque, and raps. I think that might literally be the definition of a trifecta. It all takes place at the legendary First Avenue Mainroom, and you can check out more details and ticket info right HERE. Man, June is gonna be NUTZ.
Dessa just wrapped up her first ever European headlining tour this past weekend in Milan, so I figured it was time for one last photo recap. Here’s Dessa with a very serious warning shot to RyanAir and anyone who chooses to rep their squad. The beef is real and you do not want it with Coupon Man!
Some cool photo booth shots of Dessa and Aby right before their show in Paris. Not quite sure what’s going on here, but I’d like to pretend that the two are in a heated argument regarding which French basketball player on the San Antonio Spurs has the better jumpshot, Tony Parker or Boris Diaw. My money’s on Parker for what it’s worth.
Aby and Dessa onstage in Paris, just after settling their NBA-related differences.
Now for a little bit of a bummer. Tour is not always strictly a bunch of fun and carefree running around. Case in point: Dessa caught an eye allergy somewhere between France and Italy and had her entire right eye swell up to epic proportions. NOT TYTE, ALLERGIES. Here she is after a good amount of the swelling had subsided the following day. Total trooper.
And here she is at the airport after playing her last two shows in Italy. Full recovery! You can’t keep Coupon Man down for too long. Good to see the smile is back.
Dessa will be spending this week in South Africa participating in some various cultural workshops before returning home for her Soundset main stage performance on May 24th. Today she’ll be partaking in an online #CULTUREFIX discussion about Teaching Artists. Check out the info below for more details on how to participate.
We’ve had multiple cool Doomtree video features pop up over the last week that I wanted to highlight quick. AOL.Rise featured us as their Rising Artist last week and showed some love to our “Beastface” video in their daily wrap up. Click the player below to check it out. I feel like this is the closest I may ever come to E! Weekly. Amazing.
The good people at Consequence of Sound were down in Austin this past march filming their Off the Avenue series at SXSW. Check out our in-studio performance of “Gray Duck” below, and read what they had to say about the whole thing right HERE.
And here’s a pretty great picture taken at the Off the Avenue shoot. This was on our last night at SXSW, after playing about a dozen shows over the past 36 hours. We were definitely losing it by this point. Lunacy at its finest.
The dudes shot a quick feature interview with the folks over at Rhapsody when they were out in San Francisco on the All Hands Tour. You can check that out below.
And lastly, Last.FM swung through NYC for the All Hands Tour and shot this Soundcheck feature before the show. You can watch the whole thing and read their write-up on the group HERE.
Alright, that should do it for all the Doomtree-related stuff this week. I wanted to jump into a few Local Bonus Jams quick before calling it a day. I must admit, I have totally slept on this new project from legendary awesome guys Crescent Moon and Andrew Broder. I knew these dudes had been working on some stuff, but had no idea there were already three killer songs out in the world for all to enjoy. Check out “Bad Hand,” “RITUAL,” and “ASHES” (featuring best guy Greg Grease) below. Very excited about this whole thing. I will definitely be keeping closer tabs moving forward.

Last week MaLLy dropped a brand new joint with Last Word called “Say My Peace.” It’s the first track that the two have released since their excellent album The Colors of Black, and it’s a heater. Check it out below.

I’ll leave you with a few Bonus Baby Pics to make up for last week’s absence. Here’s Laid Back Lou in the flesh, being his usual awesome laid back self. Love this guy.
And here’s Crab Man Cam working on some sort of a soap goatee during bath time. Always so quick to grow up. Really hope that doesn’t ever turn into the real thing.
Here’s Penny continuing her whole “I Live in a Cardboard Box” lifestyle. I thought this might just be a phase at first, but she’s really making a solid run out of it. There is something to be said about basic shelter, I suppose.
I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day last weekend. A big time Happy Mother’s Day shout goes out to all the moms worldwide, but I want to give a special Untouchable Baddest Mom In The Game shout to my wife Brittany Mader (AKA Killa Cam) for wrangling this household day in and day out like a true BAWSE. This picture pretty much sums up what I’m talking about. Love you mucho! Thanks for putting up with us.
Alright! That’s it for real. I hope you all have a great week watching this crazy second round of the NBA Playoffs. I may have a heart attack before the next blog post if the games keep going down to the wire like they have been. See you next Tuesday with some big time announcements!
