Welcome back to another edition of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak and even MORE BIG NEWS. Last week the good people over at HipHopDX world premiered the brand new “Lanes” video from P.O.S’ upcoming Chill, dummy album, and boy it’s a doozy. Directed and edited by Mercies May, “Lanes” finds Stef roaming around the city in a pretty sweet yellow hazmat suit. Check out the whole thing below and get amped that Chill, dummy is out in only 10 days!
P.O.S – “Lanes” (directed by Mercies May)
Super sweet. We’re coming up on the final days to get your Chill, dummy CD pre-orders in and guaranteed an early ship date (the vinyl won’t be released until March, so you’ve still got a bit of time there). Here’s a reminder of all the extremely cool stuff you’ll get by ordering the standard version. Great for any budget range, especially the “balling on a budget” range that I am oh so familiar with.
STANDARD – $12.99 (CD) / $24.99 (LP)
The Chill, dummy Standard Pre-Order includes:
- Your choice of CD or black double-vinyl gatefold LP with large pullout poster insert
- Instant free download of “Lanes,” “Wearing A Bear,” and “sleepdrone/superposition”
- Chill, dummy sticker and button pack
- Digital download of Chill, dummy on 1/27
If you’d like to take things to the next level though, you gotta go with the Chill, dummy Deluxe Pre-Order option, featuring some items that even I can’t believe we’re making.
DELUXE – $39.99 (CD) / $52.99 (LP)
The Chill, dummy Deluxe Pre-Order includes all of the above Standard Pre-Order items, as well as the following awesomeness:
- Your choice of CD or limited-edition YELLOW double-vinyl gatefold LP with large pullout poster insert, SIGNED
- Limited-edition Chill, dummy glow-in-the-dark t-shirt in an exclusive one-time-only colorway
- Chill, dummy 3D lenticular print (6×9 postcard size)
- Chill, dummy stress ball
- Chill, dummy sleep mask
That’s right. Stress balls and SLEEP MASKS! Every single deluxe order will receive a stress ball personally squeezed by yours truly. Check it out.
And here’s the the sleep masks and buttons that just came in. If you had told me twenty years ago that I’d be this uncontrollably excited about custom sleep masks I would’ve had a good laugh at your expense. What a time to be alive.
So go grab your pre-order right now over the Doomtree Webstore HERE. All pre-orders will also receive a free digital copy of the album on 1/27. If that wasn’t enough incentive, here’s a cool picture of Stef, Lincoln, and Longshot encouraging you to get your order on as well. Doooooooooooit. All orders placed by end-of-day Friday (1/20) will be shipped on Tuesday 1/24.
Stef, Sims, and DJ Fundo will making the long trek up to beautiful Ancorage, Alaska this weekend to rock a sweet one-off show at Williwaw on Friday the 20th. Check out all the details below and grab your tickets right HERE.
After they return it’s all about gearing up for this massive Chill, dummy Tour which kicks off in Chicago on the 28th. Check out all the dates below and grab your tickets HERE. So pumped that Sims, Dwynell Roland, Ceschi, and Transit22 will all be joining Stef at various points along the way.
And while you get amped for the tour, make sure to check out these extensive Spotify playlists that Stef put together highlighting his favorite songs and artists from every city he’ll be performing in. Shouts to BandsInTown for featuring this on their main site (and to birthday girl Mary Thayer for doing all the behind-the-scenes legwork). Check out the full BandsInTown article HERE, along with links to every single one of the playlists. Should give you enough music to listen to until Stef rolls through your town.
I wanted to send some quick shout outs to the Kicker Project, an organization we’ve highlighted before at several Doomtree Blowouts that provides free skate and snowboarding programs to underserved youth in the Twin Cities. They recently launched a silent auction to help raise money for the cause, and you can check out the jam-packed Doomtree auction package right HERE. Here’s a picture of the kids kicking up some fresh pow in between 480 gnar gnar flips the other week (did I say that right?).
And now on a semi-related Doomtree note: My good friend and ex-Plastic Constellations bandmate Jeff Allen is gearing up to release his first full-length under the TYTE JEFF moniker this week. It’s been awesome to watch him and the band put these songs together over the last couple years. The record is called Lutheran Teens (amazing), and the guys recently premiered an incredible new video off of it with The Current last week. Check out “1952” below, directed and conceived by ultimate dude Paul Danhauser. Highly recommended.

So good! If you’re anywhere near the Twin Cities this Saturday I would implore you to come down to the 7th St Entry for the big TYTE JEFF Lutheran Teens LP Release Party. Should be a total blast filled with a ton of ridiculously good bands (including a new group from Pavement’s own Bob Nastonovich) and more than likely an excessive amount of beers. Hope to see a bunch of you down there. Grab all the sweet deetz and ticket info HERE.
On that note, let’s jump into several more super tight Local Bonus Jams. I’m gonna kick things off with a new one from our good friends Manchita and Bionik. Chita has been a member of excellent groups like GRRRL PRTY and Tha Clerb (and has a crushing verse on the new P.O.S record) and Bionik is a true OG legend producer who has worked with about anyone you can think of. Couldn’t be more excited about the collabo project these two have got in the works. Check out lead single “Head Right” below and get excited with me. Can’t wait to hear more.

Trampled By Turtles’ Dave Simonett is gearing up to release his great new solo album under the Dead Man Winter name and just dropped the second single from the project. I love everything I’ve heard off this album so much. Can’t wait for it to come out next week. Check out “Red Wing Blue Wing” below.

This next guy is technically from Milwaukee but he was just here celebrating and performing at Sims’ More Than Ever release show so I’m giving him a Local Bonus Jams pass. Check out the new “Mamas Boy” single from Lex Allen below. I highlighted his “Cream and Sugar” track awhile back and am super into this new one as well. We got to link up briefly before the Sims show and the new music Lex played me is completely insane. Keep an eye and an ear out for more from him soon.

The homies Scoundrel Spence and Afrokeys just put out a new collabo EP together and it KNOCKS. There’s some great chemistry between these two. Check out the whole project below and bump it loud.
Scoundrel Spence x Afrokeys – “F*ck The Dumb Sh*t”
Tek recently dropped a new gem for the start of 2017. Love this one. Check out “95” below and stay on the lookout for more from this man soon.
Tek – “95”
This good people at TPT just put together a really interesting look into Prof and his creative process as part of their MN Original series. Highly recommend checking this out and all the other segments on their site. For years this has been a really strong program shedding light on all sorts of arts and culture from the Twin Cities. This new one is no different.

Now for the big national acts that I’ve been bumping lately. I’m loving the new Roy Woods EP. He’s got a voice a bit similar to The Weeknd, but with more style and beat selection and creativity. Check out “Magic” below and definitely give this whole Nocturnal project a spin.
Roy Woods – “Magic”
LLOYD IS BACK!!! Oh man, it’s been a minute. I played the living hell out of that Street Love album a decade ago. Glad to see this dude back to making music. Here’s the title track from Lloyd’s new Tru EP.
Lloyd – “Tru”
I’m still on a huge dancehall kick these days and one of my current favorite artists is Burna Boy out of Nigeria. His Redemption and On A Spaceship albums are must listens, and he just dropped this new “Mandem Anthem” single at the end of last year. LOVE IT. Here’s the video for the track.
Burna Boy – “Mandem Anthem”
Big Sean is gearing up for a new album and dropped this great “Moves” single in the rollout. I always thought of him as more of just a feature artist in the past, but his last album had some really strong solo material and his ear for beats is phenomenal. Looking forward to checking out Undecided when it drops.
Big Sean – “Moves”
This next one will probably throw you for a loop, but first consider that I have three children under the age of five and they all love the movie Trolls more than life itself. We’ve seen it twice in the theater and I can guarantee there will be another 50+ viewings once this thing makes it to DVD. Couple that with the fact that I think Ariana Grande may have the best voice in pop music and you’ve got a recipe for a Mader Household SMASH HIT. Check out “They Don’t Know” from the Trolls soundtrack below. Or don’t do that at all.
Ariana Grande – “The Don’t Know”
BAM! That’s it for Bonus Jams. I’ll leave you with a few Bonus Baby Pics since I missed them last week. Penny had pretty much the best day of her life a few weeks back at The Princess Ball — which is exactly what it sounds like, little kids dressed up as princesses hanging out with grown women dressed up as princesses. Here she is with Sleeping Beauty trying not to freak out. Shouts to my folks for taking her to this.
Here’s the recently on-hiatus Fifth Harmony Tribute Band taking a breather after Bath Time and enjoying the true rest and relaxation that comes with Jammy Time.
We’re down to one fish at home (RIP George and Elsa), and the reality that our family may not be at a place where we can care for any living thing is getting more and more real by the second. To remedy this, we have recently adopted a plastic pet hedgehog named Olivia. She’s the best. No fuss and pretty much lives in Penny’s backpack. Win Win.
What it looks like when two of my children call off a three-year cold war and decide to make peace over the fact that they both enjoy laying under blankets by the fire and watching TV shows. Truce. For now.
Like father like son! Here’s Cam repping the Legend Recognize Legend brand like a champ. I’ve never been more proud.
Alright, that does it for this post! I hope you all have a wonderful week enjoying a little bit of this heatwave that’s coming over us. Make sure you go grab that P.O.S pre-order right HERE and I’ll see a bunch of you at the TYTE JEFF show this Saturday!
