Heyyyyyyyyyooooo, welcome back to another crazy packed edition of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak. It’s officially the first Tuesday of May, which means we’ve got a brand new episode of the Tuesdays With Lazerbeak podcast for you! This time around Jeyca and I welcome legendary MN singer-songwriter Jeremy Messersmith to talk about everything under the sun.
Topics addressed in this episode include: the JM 9000 vocal sample pack, adult pottery classes, writing songs on the ukelele, grassroots touring, getting the editor out of the room when creating, the heated battle between Gen Z and Gen X, and maybe the best story ever told about how Jeremy almost actually murdered the lead singer of the headlining act he was touring with. You gotta hear it to believe it, baby. Check out the full episode below or wherever you listen to podcasts right HERE. Hope you enjoy it! And don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe. That stuff really goes a long way in the podcast world.
Speaking of Jeremy Messermsith (SEGUE!!!), he’ll be playing right before Doomtree at Common Sound Festival on June 30th in St. Louis Park, MN. This is the only full-crew Doomtree show that we have on the books this year, so you definitely don’t want to miss it. Check out the deetz below and grab your tickets HERE.
And here’s a recent single from Jeremy in case you’re not familiar with his music. “Sweep Me Off My Feet” was shot on his iPhone and features an Oscar-worthy performance by our good friend Har Mar Superstar. So good!

In other music news, Paper Tiger just did a killer remix of the new Matthew Connor single “Only Physical.” Matthew is gearing up to release a new full-length album and he and Papes have actually been scheming on some new collaborative music together as well, so this is just a first taste of what’s to come. Just wait til the drop at 3:00. TOTAL BANGER!

Dessa, Aby Wolf, and Matthew Santos have officially landed in Europe. Wish I could say the same about Aby’s luggage, but these guys are not gonna let a little missing gear stop them. Here’s the update from the first show in Vienna last night. I knew that trail mix would come in handy.

VIENNA. New fans over here. Thanks for the welcome. (Less excited about @klm at the moment.)
The gang will stop in Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, England, and Ireland over the next week. Make sure to come check them out if you’re in the area or pass the word on to any of your peoples nearby. Should be a blast. Grab those tickets right HERE.
That does it for the Doomtree-related news this week, so let’s jump right into the Bonus Jams. Enormous shouts to my podcast co-host Jeyca Maldonado for putting me up on Aly & AJ. If you listen to the newest podcast you can actually hear the first moment that she tells me about them. What followed over the course of this past week is nothing shy of super fandom. They really do sound like if HAIM and Carly Rae Jepsen were even more pop. Here’s their latest single “Don’t Go Changing.” Can’t wait for the new EP to drop this week.
Aly & AJ – “Don’t Go Changing”
Lizzo, Sophia Eris, and The Big GRRRLs just came through St Paul and shut the city down this past weekend. Tayla Parx is main support on that tour and she had an excellent opening set. I’m a big fan of her new album (and all the writing she does for Ariana Grande and a slew of other artists). Check out the vid for “I Want You” below.
Tayla Parx – “I Want You”
6LACK is one of my favorite R&B artists out there and he recently jumped on this excellent new Jesse Reyez song “Imported.” I love everything about it. These guys work great together.

Loving this new alubm from Colombian reggaeton artist Karol G. So many cool zones all over this thing. Highly recommended. Here’s her latest video for “Ocean.”
Karol G – “Ocean”
BANKS is back! She just dropped her first single for an upcoming project and it was co-produced by Hudson Mohawke and my man BJ Burton. Big things! Check it out below.
BANKS – “Gimme”
I loved that last Lauv single with Troye Sivan and now he’s back with this “Drugs & The Internet” banger. This chorus is guaranteed to get stuck in your head for a minimum of one week. Excited to hear more.
Lauv – “Drugs & The Internet”
Thutmose continues to heat up with the new slammer “Wipe Me Down” featuring the 6’s own Tory Lanez. Big fan of both these dudes and they sound great together. Can’t wait for the next Thutmose project.

The young gunner Dwynell Roland is back with his latest single “Alone.” Produced by Travis Gorman, this is a cool new laid-back vibe and direction for Dwynell and I’m all about it. One of the best songs he’s made to date in my very humble opinion.
Dwynell Roland – “Alone”
We are very close to getting the incredible debut full-length from Minnesota’s own Lady Midnight and I can guarantee that the wait will be worth it. Not to humble brag too much, but I’ve had a copy of this project for a minute and I truly think it already belongs in Album Of The Year discussions. Here’s a new video for “Ode to a Burning Building.” Shouts to MMYYKK from astralblak on the production.
Lady Midnight – “Ode to a Burning Building”
Culture Abuse is back with a new single! I’ve been bumping their 2018 album Bay Dream all Spring (perfect windows down driving music). Really hope this means there’s a new project on the way.
Culture Abuse – “Goo”
Shouts to my Iowa homies for putting me up on PUP. These guys ROCK. Definitely plays to my soft spot for gang vocals and super loud indie/punk/what have you. Bummed I just missed them when they came through Minneapolis. I can only imagine how crazy these shows must get. Here’s “Free At Last.”
PUP – “Free At Last”
Here’s a new video from Minneapolis’ Happy Children. Sounding good.
The Happy Children – “Switch It Up”
And lastly, here’s a new video from Twin Cities band Last Import who have been making some major noise in these parts recently. Check out “Money” below.

If you’re a Spotify person, don’t forget to save my Bonus Jams playlist to your account so you can take these songs with you wherever you go and stay up on the latest heaters. I update it every Tuesday morning with about a dozen new tracks that I’ve been feeling all week. You can grab it right HERE.
That’ll do it for this post. I hope you all have a wonderful week enjoying the sunshine. Make sure to check out the newest Tuesdays With Lazerbeak podcast below and I’ll see you back here next Tuesday for another round of TWL!
