Oh man oh man, welcome to an out-of-this-world edition of Tuesdays With Lazerbeak. It brings me supreme joy to finally announce the full details of Dessa and the Minnesota Orchestra’s collaborative live album. Sound the Bells: Recorded Live at Orchestra Hall will be released into the world on November 8th via Doomtree Records. That’s the incredible album art below courtesy of design master and original Doomtree founding member MK Larada.
Today we’re unveiling the first single from the project, one of Dessa’s most famous songs, “Call Off Your Ghost.” This new live version was arranged by Andy Thompson, based off the original studio version produced by Paper Tiger, and then performed live by over 100 musicians on the legendary stage of Orchestra Hall. Huge shouts to conductor Sarah Hicks for pulling that all together. Check out “Call Off Your Ghost” below and please help us spread the word!

Good lord that signed score sheet is SO TIGHT. Here’s a picture captured by Zoe Prinds-Flash of me mid-celebration directly after we captured the final notes of the last performance at Orchestra Hall this past March. It’s very akin to the gesture that I’m making RIGHT NOW. So pumped to have all this news out into the world!
Oh and speaking of performances (SEGUE!!!!), if you’re near the Twin Cities tonight don’t miss the second-ever live taping of the Tuesdays With Lazerbeak podcast at the Parkway Theater. I’ll be joined by my co-host Jeyca Maldonado, musical and main interview guest Greg Grease, and Megan Rae and Christin Crabtree from the Domestic Abuse Project. Should be an awesome Tuesday night of hope, inspiration, laughs, and overall positivity. Doors at 6pm and the show goes from 7-9pm for all you early risers out there. Grab your tickets HERE and I’ll see you tonight!
I also wanted to tell you about this incredible new show at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts created by my good friend and Mixed Blood Majority bandmate Joe Horton. Vessel is a 30-minute, single-channel film installation that resides at the intersection of stop-motion animation, ambient sound, and poetic plot. And on top of all that, it also includes some of my infamous crystal collection sprinkled throughout the film. The show will be on view until September 22nd and you can learn more about it right HERE. Huge shouts to Joe for this one, I know how hard he’s been working all year on it. Should be magnificent.
OK! That’s it for this post. I’ll leave you with “Call Off Your Ghost” one more time in case you missed it up top. Make sure to grab your Sound the Bells pre-order and help us get the word out about the project. I’ll see some of you tonight at the Parkway, and if not, for sure next Tuesday right back here for another edition of TWL. Have a wonderful week!
