Dessa Announces ‘Bury The Lede: A Cocktail Book’

Hello news fiends,

We’ve got a serious announcement today, so settle in, make yourself a drink, and then pour it down the drain—a brand new cocktail book is coming to town.

Dessa paired up with beverage maverick Marco Zappia to create a little hardcover book of essays and bespoke cocktail recipes, each inspired by one of the 11 tracks on her most recent album, Bury the Lede.

Marco has been raved about in fancy publications like Esquire and Forbes; the former said that he makes “the most fun cocktails in America.” He’s one part bartender and one part warlock-chemist, with a particular interest in local harvests, fermentation, and clever flavor combinations. We’ve been a fan of his work for years and were terribly excited that he agreed to partner on this scheme. Bill Phelps provided the images for the project and they’re just as classy and sexy and sophisticated as the rest of his work.

Lazerbeak, Doomtree’s fearless leader, was often on hand for both quality control and moral support.

Accompanying each of Marco’s recipes, Dessa wrote a little essay on craft that recounts the making of each song—the challenge of replacing gibberish lyrics with real ones, the sometimes complicated dynamics of creative collaboration, and the oppressive heat of recording in one’s closet.

The preorder for Bury the Lede: A Cocktail Book opens today. We’ll start shipping copies on November 15th.

PREORDER HERE

A standard preorder package includes the book and a few custom matchbooks to stock in your home bar. (There’s even a little space for you to write in your phone number, like an honest-to-goodness watering hole where you wow your friends and neighbors with your newly acquired skills.)

The collectors preorder package is limited to 150 copies. It includes a signed and hand-numbered book, the aforementioned matches, a Dessa’s B+ Thursday shot glass (replete with gold rim), a zester, a spoon-muddler combo, and a jigger (that measuring tool that kinda looks like a miniature hourglass). Plus a two-pack of Oreos to complete the B+ Thursday cocktail.
